De Dam
De Dam is one of the most important squares of the city. Important buildings on the square are: Madame Tussauds’ wax works, Hotel Krasnapolsky, de Bijenkorf, Paleis op de Dam and the Nieuwe Kerk. You can’t miss the National Monument in the centre of the square.
De Wallen – Red Light District
Amsterdam is well known for De Wallen, a popular tourist attraction nowadays, and also called the red light district because of the colour of the lights in the prostitutes’ windows.
Gassan Diamonds
At Gassan Diamonds located in a former steam driven diamond factory, you can see diamond cutters at work. A guide will tell you all about the diamond processing. Grachtengordel
The grachtengordel is the name for the canals of Amsterdam. The city canals have been constructed in a circle around the city centre. They are a reminder of the Dutch ‘golden’ 17th century.
Kalverstraat
This is the busiest shopping street of Amsterdam with branches of many well-known store chains.
Leidse Plein
The Leidse Plein is the best known square of the city. It is a real hotspot with many terraces, bars, restaurants and, in summer, street artists.
Negen Straatjes
A nice shopping area and hotspot for trendy shoppers. This shopping area is spread over nine small streets in the centre of Amsterdam, which is why it is called Negen Straatjes. Here you will find second-hand clothing, vintage stores, designer boutiques and trendy fashion brands.
P.C Hooftstraat
The most expensive shopping street of the Netherlands. World famous brands like Louis Vuitton, Cartier, Chanel, and Gucci have stores in this street. The P.C Hooftstraat is frequently visited by Dutch celebrities.
Paleis op de Dam
This is one of the royal palaces, situated at the Dam. Famous for its balcony scene during the wedding of Maxima and Prince Willem-Alexander.
Rembrandtplein
The Rembrandtplein is a big square in the city centre. It is well known as one of the entertainment centres of the city with a lot of dance-clubs, theatres and bars.
Rijksmuseum
This is the biggest and most important museum of the Netherlands. Its main objective is to show and explain the history of the Netherlands to as many tourists and inhabitants as possible. The collection consists of more than one million pieces, one of which is Rembrandt’s masterpiece, The Nightwatch.
Stedelijk Museum
Museum for modern art.
Vincent van Gogh Museum
This museum is dedicated to the Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh (1853 – 1890) More than two hundred paintings, five hundred drawings and seven hundred letters by this famous artist, are exhibited in this museum.
Vondelpark
The Vondelpark is Amsterdam’s best known park. Many people come here to exercise, relax, walk and a lot more.
