History

Hotel Casa 400 Amsterdam has an unique concept and a great history.

Casa 400 was founded by a group of students in the fifties, during the years of the postwar rebuilding. Casa Academica was officially founded on April the 18th 1957. Four students each donated fl25.00 in order to raise the foundation with a starting capital of fl100.00.

The reason of raising Casa 400 a shortage of student accommodation and a shortage of hotel capacity in Amsterdam because of the increasing tourism in the Dutch capital.

Gabbe Scheltema and Nol van Zuiden discovered the Scandinavian concept of combining student accommodation in the low season with tourist accommodation in the high season. They became enthusiastic about this formula and developed a plan. In cooperation with Frits Bolkestein and Ruud Klokgieters the foundation Casa Academica was raised in 1957. The foundation was opened at April the 18th 1962 after years of preparation.

After 50 years, a new beginning started for Casa 400. The building on the James Wattstraat was old fashioned and the hotel deserved something new!

New Hotel Casa 400

November 2007: a new period of Casa 400 has started. The 23rd of April 2010: Hotel Casa 400 welcomed her first guests in the brand new hotel. The new concept is modern and refreshing. Tourists as well as business guests are more than welcome to visit Hotel Casa 400 Amsterdam all year around. During 12 months of the year there are 151 hotel rooms available and during the months June through September there are even 520 hotel rooms available.
